Want to exercise, but short on time? Try interval training!
As moms, it can be nearly impossible to find time to exercise. If this is your problem, I believe I have a solution for you. Have you heard of interval training? It’s a very effective form of high intensity training followed by short rest times. The good news is that you can get the same, if not better, results than a steady-state exercise training. Let me tell you more about it.
Interval training involves doing short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by an easier recovery period. The best news is that you can adapt this type of training to any activity. Walking, running, biking, elliptical, even playing with your kids. The beauty of interval training is that it boosts your metabolism so you burn more calories and fat, which means faster weight loss. It also means that you will continue to burn fat and calories after you’re done exercising. With every additional interval, you burn an even higher proportion of fat because you require more and more oxygen for both the work and recovery portions. There’s a lot of science and further information to substantiate the claim that interval training is the way to go, but I’ll spare you the scientific details and let you research more if you’re interested.
I’ve found a lot of exercise examples on interval training and there are even apps for your phone. I’ve found a simple and effective way to get a good interval training in: use music! Most of us listen to music while we workout, well, here’s what works for me–when a song’s tempo picks up, you use that as your cue to kick things up and give it all you’ve got; when the tempo slows you use that as your cue to slow down and then repeat.
So, if you’re finding yourself short on time, but needing a good workout, try some interval training.
