Monday Morning DAD in Green Bay

Today’s Monday morning feature is NOT a mom and is instead a DAD! I’m so glad I had a voluntary submission from a father in the Green Bay area! Despite the name, let’s go mommy is for all parents and caregivers–not just mommies! I had some hesitations about the name for that very reason, but I went with it anyway because it had so many meanings to me. First of all, it was a fun, tongue-in-cheek spin on the popular Go Daddy. (If you know me, you know I love dry/ironic humor.) Secondly, “let’s go, mommy!” is a phrase that can often be heard coming from the mouths of babes and lastly, it’s also an encouraging rally cry for moms. The name is not at all meant to alienate dads, grandparents or other caregivers. I’m so glad that David was able to see that and send me a questionnaire to be featured today!! (And I hope he won’t be the last!)  So without further ado, we welcome our first Monday Morning Dad:

Meet David Gallistel!

Q: What town/city do you live in?
A: Green Bay

Q: How many kids do you have?
A: Two: One girl & one boy

Q: What are their ages?
A: Almost 4-year old girl & 9 month old boy

Q: Do you work outside the home? If so, where & what do you do?
A: I’m a full time stay at home dad and have been since our daughter was born in 2012.  My wife and I were talking about daycares and how to go about finding trustworthy childcare in the fall of 2011 when we were expecting our daughter and I said, “Crazy idea, what if I stay home with her?”. So I quit my teaching job and we’ve never looked back!

Q: What is your favorite at-home activity to do with your kids?
A: A little of everything. Playing, doing art projects, going to the park, playing on the swing set, cooking, watching Disney Junior, etc.

Q: Where is your favorite place around Green Bay to take your kids?
A: There are so many, I wouldn’t be able to pick just one, but some of our favorites are: The Children’s Museum, Kroc Center, various parks, City Deck/Fox River Trail, NEW Zoo, Bay Beach/Wildlife Sanctuary, and Wisconsin TimberRattlers games.

Q: If you had one parenting tip to share that has worked for you/helped you, what would it be?
A: I’m not a fan of the traditional parenting tactic of the “Time-Out!” A calm conversation (may need to wait out a fit) about what he/she did wrong, why it was wrong, and a reasonable consequence related to the negative behavior seems to work for me.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do for yourself when you have time?
A:  Golf, biking, and watching sports.

Q: Are you a night owl or an early bird (despite what you have to be as a mom)?
A: Historically a night owl. These days it seems neither.

Q: What is something not many people know about you?
A: I’m a published author – I had a paper published in a business journal on convergence of international and domestic accounting standards for revenue recognition – which is exactly as boring as it sounds!

Thanks for sharing with us, David. Check back next week to meet another area mom OR dad!
