Monday Morning Moms in Green Bay

Meet Jenna Kast!

Q: What town/city do you live in?
A:  Green Bay

Q: How many kids do you have?
A:  I have one daughter, Wren.

Q: What are their ages?
A:  She is 5 years old.

Q: Do you work outside the home? If so, where & what do you do?
A:  Yes. I work full-time as a Graphic Designer and Marketing Coordinator, and I also own my own hand lettering and design business, Jenna Kast Studio. I do everything from logos and wedding signage to retail products like mugs, journals, totes and prints.

I have a website (jennakast.com) and an Etsy store (JennaKastLettering), but I also sell my products at local craft and art markets and have them at a few local stores like Dwell & Grace and Apricot Lane.

Q: What is your favorite at-home activity to do with your kids?
A. My daughter is an absolute science junky! Her heroes right now are Bill Nye the Science Guy and Adam Savage from Mythbusters and Tested. We go through a lot of food coloring doing various science experiments, and we also like to use her microscope to take a closer look at everyday objects.

Q: Where is your favorite place around Green Bay to take your kids?
A: In Green Bay it’s hard to beat the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary in terms of experience and affordability. We love being outside and Wren loves animals so it’s the best of both worlds. We visit all year round – doing winter hiking on the beautiful trails, making spring trips to feed the hungry geese and visiting all summer long for a nice walk and their great events.

Q: If you had one parenting tip to share that has worked for you/helped you, what would it be?
A: My biggest parenting tip is to say “yes” more. It opens up so many more chances for adventure and fun – both for the kids and the parents. If we have a free day we’ll ask Wren where she wants to go, and we’ll go there. We may not want to at first, or it may seem like there’s not much to do there, but we always end up having more fun than we expected and making great memories too.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do for yourself when you have time?
A: I’ve been lucky enough to turn my hobby of art and hand lettering into a business, and I absolutely love it. I’m the type of person who always needs to be creating, so getting to do that for my business is deeply satisfying.

Q: Are you a night owl or an early bird (despite what you have to be as a mom)?
A: I would LOVE to be a morning person, but I’m totally a night owl. I do most of my work for my business after Wren goes to bed, and I could stay up into the wee hours of the morning making and creating.

Q: Share a funny quote from you child.
A: Wren loves telling jokes, and this one is her favorite; “What do you call a pile of kittens? A MEOW-ntain (mountain).”

Q: Share an embarrassing moment or something funny that happened to you.
A: When Wren was younger she would call anyone she perceived to be her grandparents’ age “Grandma” and “Grandpa.” This would sometimes lead to embarrassment for me when she did it at the grocery store to people who were not yet of that age. She also liked to yell “Daddy!” to younger men at the grocery store, which never failed to make them chuckle.

Thanks for sharing with us, Jenna! Check back on another Monday to meet a different area mom.

(Let’s go mommy is always in need of more Monday Moms, so if you are willing to be featured, please email lindy@letsgomommy.com. Thank you!)
