I was on a field trip this spring with my daughter to the Experimental Aircraft Association museum in Oshkosh and found out a very neat fact—kids ages 8-17 can take a FREE flight at the EAA through the Young Eagles program!! This would be a great activity to plan for the summer.
Here’s how you can schedule your FREE introductory flight in a general aviation airplane with a volunteer pilot:
- Go to EAA.org/youngeagles to locate a Young Eagles coordinator in your area
- Contact your local coordinator to schedule your flight
- Take off!
Parents do NOT go along on the ride. Flights are for the pilot and child (co-pilot) only. Kids will fly with a local EAA volunteer pilot who will show them what real pilots do on the ground and in the air.
This could be just a fun one-time experience, or maybe your kids are really interested in aviation and possibly becoming a pilot someday. If so, there are even more benefits that you may be interested in.
After your child’s flight, the pilot will present your child with their very own Young Eagles logbook with a unique code to activate their FREE EAA Student Membership, which includes:
- FREE access to the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course ($199 value)
- FREE admission to 300+ science and technology museums across the United States
- FREE Academy of Model Aeronautics Student Membership
- FREE electronic copy of EAA Sport Aviation
- FREE first flight lesson ($130 value)—upon completion of the first three volumes of the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course
- Reimbursement after passing the FAA knowledge exam ($165 value)
- Access to valuable flight training awards, education scholarships, Air Academy camperships and much more!
More than 2 million young people have already taken advantage of this unique opportunity, so don’t wait—schedule your flight today!
