Monday Morning Moms in Green Bay

Meet Shannon Minzlaff!

Q: What town/city do you live in?

A: Hobart

Q: How many kids do you have?
A: One daughter, Harper.

Q: What are their ages?
A: 1.5 years old

Q: Do you work outside the home? If so, where & what do you do?
A: Yes, I am a first grade teacher for the Pulaski Community School District.

Q: What is your favorite at-home activity to do with your kids?
A: Harper enjoys coloring so we color together, read books and play outside.

Q: Where is your favorite place around Green Bay to take your kids?
A: We enjoy visiting local parks, the zoo and we really like Mulberry Farm.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge in parenting thus far?
A: There’ve been many successes and challenges so far in being a parent and I know that will continue. Currently our biggest challenge is whether or not to let Harper play on the iPad or iPhone. There’s so much information that suggests no technology for children under the age of 2, yet Harper is intrigued by it. As parents we’ve limited the amount of time we spend on our phones or iPads while we’re with her to help remove the temptation. We’ve let her watch Elmo songs on them but when it’s time to stop she doesn’t want to give it up and it becomes a full on crying fit! I have a feeling this a going to be an ongoing battle since Harper is only 1.5 years old and technology is here to stay! As a first grade teacher I understand how technology is a part of children’s worlds at a young age much more than it used to be. I guess it’s all about finding that balance!

Q: What do you like to do when you have time for yourself?
A: I enjoy reading, doing puzzles and spending time with my husband Jeff and friends.

Q: Are you a night owl or an early bird (despite what you have to be as a mom)?
A: Before having Harper I was always an early bird. Harper is a night owl, so I guess for now that makes me more of a night owl…but I’m hoping one day to return to the early bird group. 😉

Thanks for sharing with us, Shannon! Please check back next week to meet another area mom.

(P.S. Let’s go mommy is always in need of more submissions from moms or dads, so please contact me if you are interested and willing to be featured at lindy@letsgomommy.com. It’s super easy!)
